Mumps Virus Nucleic Acid

Mumps virus is a single serotype virus, but the SH protein gene is highly variable in different mumps viruses. Mumps virus is divided into 12 genotypes based on the differences of SH protein genes, namely types A, B, C, D, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, and N. The distribution of mumps virus genotypes has obvious regional characteristics. The strains prevalent in Europe are mainly genotypes A, C, D, G, and H; the main prevalent strains in the Americas are genotypes C, D, G, H, J, and K; the main prevalent strains in Asia are genotypes B, F, I, and L; the main prevalent strain in China is genotype F; the prevalent strains in Japan and South Korea are genotypes B and I respectively. It is unclear whether this SH gene-based virus typing is meaningful for vaccine research. Currently, The live attenuated vaccine strains in use worldwide are mainly genotype A, and the antibodies produced by virus antigens of different genotypes are cross-protective.
