Epidemiology

Adenovirus (ADV) is one of the important causes of respiratory diseases, and they may also cause various other diseases, such as gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis, cystitis, and exanthematous disease. The symptoms of respiratory diseases caused by adenovirus are similar to common cold symptoms in the initial stage of pneumonia, prosthetic laryngitis and bronchitis. Immunocompromised patients are particularly vulnerable to severe complications of adenovirus infection. Adenovirus is transmitted by direct contact, the fecal-oral route, and occasionally through water.
