Macro & Micro-Test is proud that its HPV molecular diagnostic technology was utilized in Nepal’s first nationwide HPV DNA-based cervical cancer screening program. The study results were selected for Oral Presentation at the AMP Europe 2026 Congress and published in the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics, the official journal of the Association for Molecular Pathology.

The study, led by Nepal’s National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) and the Ministry of Health and Population, analyzed 14,710 women across eight districts, representing one of the largest HPV molecular screening initiatives conducted in South Asia.
Why AMP Europe Matters
AMP Europe is one of the leading international congresses dedicated to molecular diagnostics and precision medicine, bringing together clinical laboratories, researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry experts from around the world. Oral presentations are reserved for studies recognized by scientific reviewers as having significant clinical and public health value.

Publication of the congress abstracts in the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics (Impact Factor: approximately 3.7) further enhances the visibility and scientific impact of these findings within the global molecular diagnostics community.
Key Findings from Nepal’s National Screening Program
The nationwide screening program revealed:

- · 14,710 women screened using HPV DNA testing
- · HPV16 prevalence: 1.65%
- · HPV18 prevalence: 0.83%
- · Other high-risk HPV types: 7.44%
- · Non-16/18 high-risk HPV genotypes accounted for the majority of infections.
- · Multiple HPV co-infections were identified, highlighting the importance of broad genotype coverage in future screening and vaccination strategies.
These findings provide valuable epidemiological evidence for optimizing cervical cancer prevention programs in Nepal and reinforce the importance of comprehensive HPV genotyping beyond HPV16 and HPV18.
Macro & Micro-Test High-Risk HPV Detection
The national screening program utilized the Macro & Micro-Test 14 High-Risk HPV Detection Kit
Product Highlights
- Sample Types: Supports both clinician-collected cervical swabs and urine specimens, providing a convenient, non-invasive self-collection option to improve screening participation.
- Broad High-Risk HPV Coverage: Detects all 14 WHO-recognized high-risk HPV genotypes (16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68). This comprehensive coverage reflects the growing clinical recognition that non-16/18 HPV genotypes contribute substantially to the cervical cancer burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
- High Analytical Sensitivity: Detection limit of 300 copies/mL, enabling reliable identification of early high-risk HPV infections.
- Flexible Platform Compatibility: Compatible with mainstream real-time PCR systems, allowing seamless integration into existing laboratory workflows.
- Fully Automated Sample-to-Answer Solution: When integrated with the Eudemon™ AIO800 Fully Automated Molecular POCT Platform, the assay delivers a true sample-to-answer workflow with minimal operator intervention, eliminating manual nucleic acid extraction and simplifying laboratory operations.

Towards the WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Strategy
Persistent infection with high-risk HPV remains the leading cause of cervical cancer—a disease that is largely preventable through effective screening and early intervention.
Macro & Micro-Test remains committed to advancing high-quality molecular diagnostics and working with healthcare partners worldwide to improve access to reliable HPV testing that supports national cervical cancer screening programs.
Together, we can expand access to cervical cancer screening and bring high-quality molecular diagnostics closer to every woman who needs them.
