What is HPV?
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) globally. It’s a group of more than 200 related viruses, and about 40 of them can infect the genital area, mouth, or throat. Some HPV types are harmless, while others can cause serious health problems, including cervical cancer and genital warts.
How common is HPV?
HPV is extremely widespread. It’s estimated that around 80% of women and 90% of men will be infected with HPV at some point in their lives. Most infections go away on their own, but some high-risk types can persist and lead to cancer if left undetected.
Who is at risk?
Because HPV is so common that most people who have sex are at risk for (and at some point will have) an HPV infection.
Factors related to an increased risk of HPV infection include:
l Having sex for the first time at an early age (before the age of 18);
l Having multiple sexual partners;
l Having one sexual partner that has multiple sexual partners or has an HPV infection;
l Being immunocompromised, such as those living with HIV;
Why Genotyping Matters
Not all HPV infections are the same. HPV types are categorized into three groups:
1.High-risk (HR-HPV) – Linked to cancers such as cervical, anal, and oropharyngeal cancer.
2. Probably high-risk (pHR-HPV) – May have some oncogenic potential.
3.Low-risk (LR-HPV) – Typically cause benign conditions like genital warts.
Knowing the specific HPV type is crucial to determine the risk level and decide the right management or treatment strategy. High-risk types require close monitoring, while low-risk types usually just need symptom relief.
Introducing the Full HPV 28 Genotypes Assay
Macro & Micro-Test’s HPV 28 Typing Solution is a cutting-edge, CE-approved assay that brings precision, speed, and accessibility to HPV testing.
What It Does:
1.Detects 28 HPV genotypes in one test—covering 14 HR-HPV and 14 LR-HPV types, including the most clinically relevant strains:
6, 11, 16, 18, 26, 31, 33, 35, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 45, 51, 52, 53, 54, 56, 58, 59, 61, 66, 68, 73, 81, 82, 83
2.Covers both cervical cancer-causing types and those causing genital warts, enabling more complete risk assessment.
Why It’s Different:

1.High Sensitivity: Detects viral DNA at 300 copies/mL, allowing early-stage or low-load infections to be identified.
2. Fast Turnaround: PCR results ready in just 1.5 hours, enabling faster clinical decision-making.
3. Dual Internal Controls: Prevents false positives and enhances result reliability.
4. Flexible Sampling: Supports cervical swabs and urine-based self-sampling, increasing convenience and accessibility.
5. Multiple Extraction Options: Compatible with magnetic bead-based, spin column, or direct lysis sample prep workflows.
6. Dual Formats Available: Choose liquid or lyophilized versions—lyophilized form supports room temperature storage and shipping, ideal for remote or resource-limited settings.
7.Broad PCR Compatibility: Seamlessly integrates with most mainstream PCR systems worldwide.
More Than Just Detection—It’s a Clinical Advantage
Accurate HPV typing is essential for the prevention, early detection, and clinical management of cervical and other HPV-related cancers. This assay isn’t just about finding HPV—it’s about giving patients and clinicians the precise information they need to act confidently and quickly.
Whether you’re a clinician, a diagnostics lab, or a distributor, the HPV 28 Typing Assay provides a modern, comprehensive, and accessible solution for today’s healthcare challenges.
